Countertop Overhangs, Support Brackets, and the Dishwasher That Won't Open
This one shows up at the punch list: the dishwasher is installed, the counter is on, and the door won't open without scraping. The cause is almost always overhang.
The geometry
A standard countertop overhangs cabinet faces by 1 to 1.5 inches. Dishwashers are sized to fit under a 25-inch deep counter, with the door clearing as it opens. If the counter overhang grows to 2 inches — to match a stone fabricator's preference, or to align with an island — the dishwasher door catches.
When you'll see it
Almost always at trim install, after the counter is installed and the dishwasher slides in. By then, the counter is bonded to the cabinets and the dishwasher manufacturer's clearance spec is no longer flexible.
What good planning looks like
A pre-templating conversation between the cabinet installer, the countertop fabricator, and the appliance installer catches this on paper instead of in your kitchen. The dishwasher spec sheet tells you the required clearance; the counter spec tells you the overhang. If they don't match, adjust one before fabrication.

Bring your appliance spec sheets to the cabinet design meeting. Ask the contractor specifically about dishwasher clearance under your finished counter. If the answer is "we'll figure it out," push for a number.
